Mid-century ranch and custom homes near downtown, plus stucco homes with concrete tile roofs in the west and northwest.
The City of Las Vegas covers a wide range of housing, from mid-century homes near downtown to newer master-planned neighborhoods in the northwest. Older areas such as the Scotch 80s, Rancho Circle, and Huntridge include custom and ranch-style homes on larger lots, often with mature trees that can complicate a clean light line.
Farther west and northwest, neighborhoods such as Desert Shores, Peccole Ranch, and Queensridge are mostly stucco homes with concrete tile roofs, built from the 1980s onward. Many of these have HOAs. Parts of Summerlin and Centennial Hills are also inside city limits; we cover those on their own pages.
Because the housing stock varies so much, quotes here can vary too. A flat-roof mid-century home may need a different mounting approach than a two-story tile-roof home a few miles away.
Many older central neighborhoods have no HOA, while newer and gated communities usually do. Check your CC&Rs if you have them. See our HOA approval guide.
Ask for the manufacturer's rated operating temperature for the lights, controller, and power supply. Make sure it covers a sun-baked roof edge in July, not just air temperature. More on built for 115°f summers and desert uv.

Permit requirements depend on the scope, especially any new electrical outlets or circuits. Ask your installer whether a permit is needed and check with the City of Las Vegas Building and Safety department if you are unsure.
Branches can block the light line and rub against the track. Ask installers whether trimming is needed and who handles it before the install.
